Mediterranean soul. Brought to life online.
Kalaja is a Mediterranean grill restaurant in the heart of Bad Ems – a family business with more than 30 years of experience in hospitality. Traditional grilled specialties, Mediterranean flavors and genuine hospitality meet a lovingly renovated setting with a terrace overlooking the Lahn.
The brief covered the complete development of a modern website as well as the design and production of the printed menu – both in one consistent premium look: a dark color palette, warm gold and elegant serif typography.
The website brings together every important feature for guests and staff: an interactive digital menu with categories from starters to drinks, online reservations with email notification, a gallery, contact details with a map, halal labeling, an allergen overview and GDPR-compliant cookie consent.
The result is a coherent brand presence – online and on paper – that positions Kalaja as a high-end grill restaurant and gives guests a seamless experience from the first click to the visit itself.

Visual identity
The design reflects the restaurant's atmosphere: deep anthracite and charcoal (#0f0c09, #1a1512) as the base, warm gold (#c9a05c) for accents and CTAs, cream and beige tones for legibility. Cormorant Garamond as the serif for headlines conveys elegance and tradition; Inter keeps navigation and menu text clear. Subtle grain textures, glow effects and grill animations underline the Mediterranean character.
Digital menu & print
The printed menu was produced in several layouts – from starters and grill platters to pizza (Ø 28 cm) and drinks – with consistent typography and halal notes. In parallel, the entire menu was made available digitally on the website: scrollable categories with icons, prices, ingredient lists and links to the allergen overview. That way print and web always stay in sync and professional.
Reservations & technology
Guests book easily through a form with date, time and number of guests. The restaurant automatically receives an email notification. The site uses React Router for the legal notice (Impressum), privacy policy and allergens. Social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok), Google Maps, opening hours and a student discount banner round off the site.
